This organisation is open to any man who would like to spend a couple of hours in congenial company listening to an interesting speaker and enjoying a cup of coffee. Meetings are held bi-monthly from September to May, usually on the first or second Tuesday in the month in the North Room of St. Margarets Church at 8 p.m. Some of our speakers are from within our Fellowship or from the village and it is surprising at the variety of experiences which these speakers can offer.
Certainly the subjects are varied and colourful and provoke much discussion. Historical subjects have included "Anna Atkins and her Circle", the story of an amazing woman who was a pioneer of photography who breached the stronghold of Victorian men in the learned societies of the land and lived at Halstead Place. We also enjoyed a talk on the "History of Wine" by Mr. Andrew Jones who was involved in the setting up of the charity "Partnership Vineyards" with farmworkers in South Africa. One of our members shared his enthusiam with us as a voluntary worker on the Ffestiniog Railway.
Topical subjects have included an illustrated talk about the work of the West Kent Mediation service in the community. Other enthusiasts and /or experts have shared their knowledge in subjects such as "Fungi", Sevenoaks Music, Charities Aid Foundation and Agriculture in the Middle East. Recent speakers have included a colonel , an anaesthetist , a head teacher ,an author, an M.B.E., a Rural Dean and a Senior Military Consultant. In addition , we delight in visiting intersting places and normally include a couple of visits each year.
Recent visits have included tours of Lords Cricket Ground, Houses of Parliament, backstage at the Royal Opera, The Royal Pavilion, Brooklands Racing Circuit and 10 Downing Street. Although there are no subscriptions, many members kindly make a small contribution to the costs of biscuits and coffee. With the profits from these contributions, the Fellowship has been able to donate to the church a combined video cassette recorder and DVD player.
Why not join us at one of our meetings?
Details of dates and reports of meetings are included in the church magazine and further information can be obtained from the secretary, Derek Heritage (tel: 01959 534538).
We look forward to your company.
